Your Name HERE Date Company or Union Name HERE RE: Employee Health Plan To Whom It May Concern: I want to share some information that surprised me. Did you know that in the U.S., more than 50% of all pregnancies are unintended? An Institute of Medicine Committee on Unintended Pregnancy in 1995 concluded that one of the reasons for the high rates of unintended pregnancy in this country was the failure of private health insurance plans to cover contraceptives. As an employer, Company Name HERE should care about preventing unplanned pregnancy. The costs resulting from unplanned pregnancy far outweigh prevention. With this letter, I ask that management change its current policy not just for me, but for other women as well. The current policy exclusion is unfair to women because it creates barriers to contraception, increases the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions, increases the incidence of low birth weight babies and miscarriages, and threatens the physical financial well-being of women and families enrolled in this plan. Sincerely,
