All It Takes Is One Person

Ask your employer to add contraceptive coverage to your health plan.

Most people think that the insurance company determines their health benefits. But it's your employer who chooses what your health plan covers. Some employers include contraception in one or more of their health plans, some don't.

Often employers say "our workers have never asked for health insurance coverage for contraception." Unless someone asks, employers don't know to press for it when the time comes to renew health benefits. You need to ask.

Unions can help-- but you have to ask them.

If you are in a union, ask your union leaders to press for health insurance coverage for contraception. Don't wait! Do it now before the next bargaining cycle begins. Circulate a petition to share with your union leaders.

It works!

How do you ask?

  • Start with the Right Person

The Right Person is...

  • ... the boss
  • ... or the manager in charge of employee benefits for your company
  • ... your union leaders

Send your letter or a petition signed by co-workers to your employer and/or union rep.

The Wrong Person...

  • the person who answers consumer questions for the insurance company
  • the pharmacist who fills your prescriptions

Remember, these people are not responsible for your benefits- all they can do is tell you what your employer has chosen to cover.

Can you get fired?

It is against the law for an employer to fire, demote or punish an employee for exercising her rights.

Are you uncomfortable?

FOR MEN TOO!
